Ok, this is an obvious one. After an indie first pick we’re going big on week 2. There are SO MANY things about this song that make it one of the most epic, baller moves in music his-or-herstory.

From the fact she dropped it a day before her Super Bowl show, to the political nature of both the lyrics and the video, to the celebration of her blackness, Queen Bey SLAYED America and the world with this track.

Honestly, we can’t think of a better song to have on our DIVERSIFY playlist. So here it is in all its (millions upon millions of views) glory…

“Okay, okay, ladies, now let’s get in formation, (I slay)
Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation, (I slay)
Prove to me you got some coordination, (I slay)
Slay trick, or you get eliminated, (I slay)”

Look, we all love Adele, but she was right, Beyonce should TOTALLY have won the Grammy…

Like that song? Why not try these:
Freedom
Single Ladies
If I Were A Boy

Oh, and the fallout from this was so huge that even a load of major politicians joined in. SNL did a video “The Day Beyoncé Turned Black” pointing out the over-reactions of white people to the fact a hugely famous woman of colour decided to sing about…being a woman of colour. Cue eye-rolls and a seriously good opportunity to make fun of white people!

Each week we’ll bring you a new song by artists we love and who we believe share the same message of diversity and progressive thinking we do. We believe bangers can be a source for good as well as just an ear-worm, so we hope you’ll find some new artists from loads of different genres.
